In my above comment I should have added that the sea change has been boosted by the recent premium pricing changes.

The ability to purchase a premium domain at a one off relatively reasonable price and then revert to normal renewal fee's is a step in the right direction and will inevitably boost premium .tv registration.

Great article...

you hit the proverbial nail on the head in several paragraphs, saving the best for last with the groupie mentality many still have with the "Schilling/Latona Rock Band".

Why on earth anyone would even invite these people crash your party is beyond me, except that they must think those two would even care to give them their blessing. They won't.

In reality(my reality, of course) the .tv extension is better off without them at this time...perhaps at a later date but right now they'll only get in the way of serious progress as the two still think in 20th century terms and that is not a correct fit for this 21st century extension. Things are just different and they are, quite literally, behind the times and not likely to catch up for awhile.

So my thanks to you on chastising members for their groupie mentality at the least and their 20th century idolatry at worst.

.TV will rock the present with its future!

In Europe .tv already has a relatively strong presence compared to North America.
It is an historical fact that in many cases Europe has been a leader and North America a follower. It is my belief that the same is begining to happen, although very slowly, in .tv.

I have been dealing with the extension since 1996, at that time you could virtually pick up any quality keyword, dictionary word and Geo (except for the really, really popular) at will.

Domains that dropped were able to be caught like fish in a barrel.......take your fill and there were still plenty left!

Fast forward only four years (a blink of an eye in the scheme of things) and try to do any of the above.

There has been a drastic sea change in what is available and one's ability to actually catch any half decent domain......Why would that be? Simple.....there are more people in the game, a lot more than we know and most newcomers are from North America.

Many of them are keeping their cards close to their chest so not to show their hand but you can bet they are waiting for the opportunity to play in the game.

IMO they would not have bought into the game if they did not expect a good chance of winning however, unless buying in the aftermarket, chances of picking up a great domain at reg fee are diminishing rapidly.

Juanny, I have 787,000 (guesstimate) written words on my site, all by me... and only one stolen (joke) blog-post ya nut! Watch out or you're next...lol
About .TV, it seriously has more potential than every other extension in many ways. The Universally known form of entertainment/News within our houses has proven itself for 60, 70 years already. So, there is no selling these 2 letters in this extension to anyone, thats done already.
Your Sports analogy was good but I disagree wholeheartedly. I have had Season tickets for the Chiago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Milwaukee bucks so I know about Premiums. When the Bears sucked and they wanted to charge me a "Premium" for the same seats that I have shared for over 10 years (they actually were worse because of the new Stadium)...long story. Well, I said forget it. They did NOT sell those Premium seats out, then came back and said...whoops sorry, we screwed up, we thought we could milk that "Premium" charge out of everyone but it didn't work. Do you want different Season seats now for just face price? I was a Loyal Bears fan/customer for 10+ years, and they treat me this way...I told them to shove it. So now whenever I want to go to a bears game, I buy each game individually for ticket price.
yes, When they are winning tix are harder to find and more expensive, and vice versa.

.TV is so different. The keyword of your domain address is what creates the price. Sex.com will be one of the highest .com domains ever, Same as Sex.tv. It will always be that way. Now that single word, killer .tv keywords are available for a one time fee, and a forever $20 annual fee, (which is basically free for a Premium), The value will always be there...unlike the Bears where who knows what the hell will happen with them this year? But the great premium keyword .tv domains will never go down in value. Right now is the lowest point you will ever see these .tv's sell for. As soon as all of the keywords are gone, then all meaningful 2-worders will be gone. What is 420. to hold onto a .Tv per year...nothing.
and as for the comments about the Big Dog .commers getting involved??? Of course that changes things. People follow the Big Dogs. Its the way of the world...Look at Micjhael Jordan, he wears Nike, so I should get a pair. Thats why all commercials have paid famous Pop Culture Stars..People are mindless sometimes and just follow their idols. Same in the Financial world. I remember watching the Big Dog Stock Investors throw a ton of money into VanKampen, and the Market followed. Damn, this is a way too long reply. Oh, and by the way, internet tv is already here. Sony, Intel, and Google are creating those right now, so the .Tv domain is the best bang for your buck right now, long term. Ok, I'm done for now. Vito.
